The space between looking and understanding

A brief reflection on attention and the habit of asking questions before reaching conclusions.

A person walks past the same square every day. The path, benches and trees are familiar. One morning, they stop. Details that once went unnoticed come into view: a shifting shadow, an interrupted conversation, the pace of those passing through.

The scene is fictional, but it offers a simple question: what do we fail to notice when we believe we already know something? Familiarity can make life easier while also narrowing our attention.

We do not need to turn every detail into a definitive explanation. Sometimes, it is enough to pause the rush to a conclusion. Between looking and understanding, there may be room for a better question.
